Hello zpekef22, I currently do not have any official plane designs made for a long range aircraft yet. I have some ideas and concepts sketched in CAD and in my mid though. I may have to build and make one in the future. What type of long range plane would you like to see? Would you want a flying wing or a more traditional style plane? We do have the very basic plans on this site to the Predator Drone plane designed by my friend Tim McMahan. It is very basic though.

I have not been in contact with Jake Marshal, the teacher who started the original MESA rcFoamFIghters for a little while now. He ended up later working with Flite Test and not us anymore. Also he left the original public school that MESA rcFoamFighters started in and went to a Private school to head a similar program there. I do not know if anyone ever took over and managed the MESA rcFoamFighters website after Jake left the original program.

I did try to make the tiled plans small enough for our international friends as the paper size used in various countries outside the USA is a little smaller than the Letter Size paper we use here. Also many of th older printers cannot print to the edges. I added the smaller trim border so hopefully everyone can print. Thanks again for your comment and input! Happy Flying!

I had someone ask about the Vertical Stabilizers for this X-plane. The original plane I just randomly cut them from balsa wood at what I thought looked OK. I measured them on my original plane and they are roughly 5 inches tall, 3.5 inches wide at the base and 2 inches wide at the top. They are swept back a little bit of an angle. I just drew a rough sketch and saved to the PDF below.

I went out to fly the FF-Supernova with the Bad Ass Power System on a windy day. With a nice tailwind push it broke 160mph. Using the wind for extra speed is cheating, but was still fun to do! The previous top speed with very little wind was 149.1 mph. FF-Supernova Breaks 160mph!!

I tested fly the 50mm and 64mm FF-117 RC planes after I made some Cheater Hole Air Intake modifications. A Cheater Hole is another Air Inlet other than the scale sized air intakes. The 50mm version did fly OK without the Cheater Mod, but I wanted to try it anyway. The 64mm plane did seem to struggle to get enough air to the EDF in the previous test flight. So on the 64mm plane I added top and bottom Cheater holes to see if it would fly better. One other note, I noticed the 64mm EDF was way down on power from the manufacturer's spec's. So I may try and swap it out later. FF-117 EDF - Cheater Hole Mods

So the next step in this FF-117 EDF Experiment was moving on to making the fully revised models. I ended up making 50mm and 64mm EDF versions to test out. My thinking was the 50mm would be a nice, lighter plane and was hoping the 64m version would be a little better performer. I got to take both planes out to Hermann Airport for some test flights and see how the revised models performed. The first test flights went pretty good, though both had some crazy close call launches. The smaller, lighter 50mm version actually seemed to perform better than the larger 64mm version. I think this was mainly because the air intake ducts are restricting the flow of air to the 64mm EDF more than it does for the 50mm EDF. So after these discovery flights I will go back and make a few more alterations to the designs. I think the 50mm is pretty close to good. The 64mm version I think will need some cheater hole vents to allow more air to get to the EDF more efficiently. I am thinking of making some 3D printed insert vents for the top lid and bottom of the plane. Stay tuned, more to come! FF-117V2 50mm and 64mm EDF Maiden Flights

I got the 80A Cobra Race Wing ESC and added it to the FF-EPP-JET. It worked out pretty good, which it should have as that is the specific ESC for these motors. The plane flew at over 130mph! This old plane is a bit of a handful to keep control of. The old servos and long control rods have a bit of play in them, combined with the torque roll it was a bit squirrely! Anyway it made for a fun and exciting flight! I will need to add this motor and ESC setup to another plane soon! FF-EPP-Jet Breaks 130mph!

jkreska, Watch the FF-Viper-50 Build Video. The FF-Viper-70 is basically built the same exact way, just bigger. There are 3 EDF rings, two are glued together to be stronger and go around the EDF end. The third ring is used to support the thrust tube. FF-Viper-50 Build Video

After trying the motor on the FF-Aurora I ended up putting the Cobra Race Wing Motor on my old FF-EPP Jet. The ESC I used was different and appeared to have trouble syncing with the motor at full throttle. That is one thing to note about the Cobra Race Wing Motor, it is a 14 pole (14 magnet) motor just like the race drone motors. When you have more poles the ESC must fire off many more times per revolution as compared to a 4-pole inrunner or even 8 or 10 pole regular outrunner motors. I hoped the 32-bit Power Up ESC I had would keep up, but didn't , at least with the settings I had. Maybe if I set it to higher timing it may. So if you are going to run a high pole motor with higher voltage/higher cell count battery, just know your ESC might not keep up. The best ESC's to use in this situation I think are BLHeli ESC's that are made for high pole motors. So I ordered a Cobra 80A Brushless Race Wing ESC that does have the BLHeli firmware on it. Here is a video of the first plane I tried the Race Wing Motor on. I put it on my FF-Aurora foamboard plane. I killed it before I could get a GPS Speed run on it. It did look pretty fast though. Fast FF-Aurora With Crazy Crash!

I little while back I bought one the Cobra Race Wing Motors. The make them in a few different KV ratings. the Motor I bought was the CP-2814-1800. Below video is the initial bench test results. Here is Part 4 of the FF-117V2 EDF Experiment. In this video I made a new bottom plate for the plane to hopefully help fight back against the downward push of the nose. I looked at some photos of the real F-117 and saw they have some angled surfaces on the bottom of the plane. I tried to make my new bottom plate somewhat mimic what I saw on the real plane.
